Koala Exchange Program
Most of Lone Pine's koalas are the Northern type, adapted to our warmer climate.
Thanks to an exchange program with Perth Zoo, Lone Pine is one of the only places in the World where you can see Northernand Southern koalas. What's the difference? Let me tell you . . .
Southern
koalaBigger, fluffier and heavier
The fur of the southern koala is grey-brown, long and fluffy. It is thicker and longer on the back than on the belly to protect them from the cool weather in southern Australia.
They can reach a length of 75 cm (29 in.) and weigh a maximum of 14 kg (31lbs).

Northern
koalaSmaller with shorter fur
The fur of the northern koala is pale grey, short and dense.
On average they are 60 cm (23 in.) long and reach a maximum of 10 kg (22lbs) in weight. They are significantly smaller than their southern counterparts.
We think they are cuter.
