Southern Koalas

In October 2001, Lone Pine participated in a "koala exchange program"with Perth Zoo in Western Australia and received a beautiful and fluffy Southern koala.

Found in southern-eastern Australia, Southern koalas are much bigger, fluffier and more feisty than koalas found in the north.

Sasha is now 4 years old and weighs in at 7kg; this makes her as big as some of the boys we have in the sanctuary!

Sasha lives usually in the Southern Koala enclosure with fellow Northern koala residents, located just behind the Kindergarten.  Sadly, she is off display until Australia Day (January 26) while she awaits the arrival of two other male Southern koalas.  Let's hope they are a good match when they arrive in January.
