Feed Lorikeets

Davinia from our Souvenir Shop (on the left) & friend feed the lorikeets

The wild lorikeets lucky enough to live around Lone Pine get to enjoy a special lorikeet mix at feeding times. This complete nectar provides the birds with a healthy meal of oats, cereals, vitamins and minerals to supplement their natural diet.

At 10:00 am and 3:00 pm every day, a special nectar mix is prepared and visitors feed the local lorikeets that come down for a very vocal chat. Keep a look out throughout the day for all sorts of different bird species that pay a call to our beautiful natural surroundings. The grounds are also home to a large group of Eastern Water Dragons that like to mingle with our guests.

The rainbow lorikeet is known for its distinctive loud screech and green, blue, yellow and red feathers. It has a brush-like surface on its tongue that enables it to extract nectar from flowers. They usually live in groups and can fly for long distances at great speeds in search of food.

In summer, you will also see lorikeets taking a bath at Lone Pine's water fountain.
