There is no place on earth that you will enjoy an encounter with Koalas like that presented at Lone Pine. With 130 adult koalas and new joeys (baby koalas) emerging all year round, two keeper shows a day, and koala cuddles and photos all day long, you will not leave disappointed.

How to hug a koala

Hugging a koala is easy by following these steps:

1. Stand facing a koala handler
2. Place your hands on top of each other, and in front of your body at your waist height
3. Keep your hands together while the handler places a koala on you.
4. Be "a tree"and support the koala's weight by standing still and have your hands under the koala at all times

82 Years
For over 82 years, famous and not-so-famous people have visited Lone Pine to cuddle a koala.

Banned in NSW
Koala cuddling has been banned in New South Wales since 1997, but cuddling is still permitted in Queensland, and especially at Lone Pine.

In Queensland, koalas can only be cuddled for less than 30 minutes per day. They must also get every third day off. This ensures that they get plenty of time to eat and sleep. At Lone Pine, we "clock on" and "clock off" our koalas when they go to the koala cuddling area.
