Connect your students to nature at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Discovery Session or Self-guided?

There are plenty of learning experiences available for students from Year 7 - 12.

Your first step is to decide which experiences suits your needs: Your class can participate in an interactive Discovery Session hosted by Lone Pine's Education Team or enjoy a self-guided day.

All confirmed bookings gain access to complimentary teaching resources to assist in making the most of your experience.

Bookings are essential and we recommend you book well in advance. Contact the Education Team to making a booking and to discover more about Lone Pine's 2012 Learning Experiences.

Please note: Registration of your interest does not automatically guarantee an excursion date. Dates are held once a booking form is received.

Self-guided

Enjoy Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary on your own with a self-guided excursion.

Lone Pine offers many public presentations throughout the day that you may incorporate into your self-guided day. Please discuss your options with the Education Team when you book.

Discovery Sessions

Our unique, interactive Discovery Sessions are linked to the National Curriculum and have been developed in conjunction with Education Queensland teachers. All Discovery Sessions hosted by the Education Team are 45 minutes in duration and include animal encounters. Each student booked into a Discovery Session receives complimentary animal food to feed the free range kangaroos, wallabies and wallaroos during free time.

Please note: There is a maximum of 30 students per session. Sessions are available at set times throughout the day during the school term, for example 10.00am, 11.15am and 12.30pm.

Discovery Session: Guardians of the Endangered

Year 7 - 10

Your class will investigate artefacts representing threatening processes currently impacting Australian wildlife. Students will teach each other that threats are not black and white. Ethical issues are involved and we need to work together to identify practical solutions. Each threatening process has an ambassador animal which the students will meet to further connect to the issues Australian wildlife face daily.

Australian Terrestrial Vertebrates: Classified!

Year 7 - 12

Your students will discover who's who among Australian terrestrial vertebrates while learning the ins and outs of why and how we classify animals. Your students will join groups to classify animal artefacts, followed by close encounters of the wild kind!

The Secret Life of Wildlife

Year 7 - 12

Students delve into the secret life of wildlife by exploring relationships and adaptations animals have evolved to survive in Australia. A common theme throughout this investigation is the human link. Humans are animals too and we are irrevocably connected to wildlife and their survival.

The Wildlife Challenge

Year 11 - 12

At Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary we offer a one of a kind wildlife experience designed to foster effective group communication and leadership. Students are challenged to work together in teams to solve cryptic clues, use their powers of observation and face their fears. Teams compete against time and each other, completing the reverse scavenger hunt, wildlife challenge stations and animal riddle clues – all based on life at the sanctuary. This is a truly unique experience that your class won’t forget in a hurry!
