Kindergarten


Option #1 ($12/student): Self-guided experience (unassisted, no session with wildlife education officer)

Option #2 ($14/student): 30 minute Discovery Session (customised just for kindy kids)

Stimulating the senses is the focus of our customised kindy session as we explore colours, textures, smells and sounds of Australia’s unique animal kingdom.

Discovery Sessions take precedence over general public talk times and cannot be altered on the day. Discovery Sessions may be booked for a minimum of 15 students. If you have a smaller group but would like a Discovery Session, you may pay for 15 students.

Prep - Year 2

P-2 Backyard Explorers: Lone Pine’s ‘Backyard Explorer’ creates a journey of discovery while introducing diets, habitats, adaptations and plenty of problem solving. Students are challenged to use their new Backyard Explorer knowledge to piece together animal clues like scale sheds, footprints and food sources to learn which animals may be living in their backyards. P-2 Hatchers & Growers: Explore the birth, growth and development of Australian wildlife by meeting a mixture of egg layers, marsupials and other live birth animals. How do these animals survive in the wild? Let’s discover the answers with hands-on experiences guided by Lone Pine’s resident ‘Hatcher and Grower’! DOWNLOAD RESOURCE (PDF)

P-2 Wildlife Scientists: Join Lone Pine’s ‘Wildlife Scientist’ (along with side kick, Fred the Magnifying Glass) and explore early level classification using body coverings. With a mix of adaptations and a healthy dose of close encounters of the wild kind, students are inducted as Lone Pine’s newest Wildlife Scientists at the conclusion of this session. Year 3 - 6

3-6 Backyard Explorers: Solve the mystery of what’s living in our backyards by piecing together clues animals leave us. Students work together in teams, investigating clues involving diets, habitats and adaptations to discover which animals may live in our backyards and how we can ensure our yards remain a safe haven for these species. 3-6 Guardians of the Endangered: Students are introduced to threatening issues facing Australian wildlife and tasked with uncovering ‘danger zones’. After exploring relevant artefacts and meeting ambassador animals, students are challenged to identify practical solutions to dangers in the form of daily actions. DOWNLOAD RESOURCE (PDF)

3-6 Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Biomes!: This game show style session investigates the main biomes of Australia and introduces the fragile ecological links within these comples zones. Students work in teams to match native animals to the correct Australian biome. DOWNLOAD RESOURCE (PDF)

Year 7 - 10

7-10 Australian Terrestrial Vertebrates- Classified!: Students meet a mammal, reptile, bird and amphibian while investigating classification using body coverings and adaptations. Students also have the opportunity to practice their classification skills by exploring biofacts such as skulls, eggs, sheds, feathers and much more. DOWNLOAD RESOURCE (PDF)

Special needs schools

Option #1: Self-guided experience (unassisted, no session with wildlife education officer)

Option #2: 30 minute Discovery Session (customised just for special needs students)

Students experience a combination of sights, smells, textures and sounds during this interactive session. Up to four animal species and associated biofacts are introduced to your student. For example, crush and smell a koala’s favourite gum leaves before feeling the soft fur of a real koala. Hold a python shed and feel the dry, paper-like scales then compare to the cool, silky scales of a real python.
