The Water Python's
scales are an iridescent dark brown colour which reflects the
colours of the rainbow. An aboriginal myth tells the story
of the Rainbow Serpent (Water Python) which created the rivers and
valleys of northern Australia with its brightly coloured body.

consuming rats, bandicoots and waterbirds.

Mating occurs from
June to September with six to 23 eggs being laid in October to
November.

northern and north-eastern Australia.
