Introduction

The Eastern Water Dragon is a wild lizard that lives within the grounds of Lone Pine.  It is one of over 60 species of dragon-like lizards that live in Australia.   Adult males may reach 90 cm in length and are more brightly coloured than females.

Food

Feeds on a range of insects, molluscs, crustaceans, vegetation and native fruits.  Sometimes small mammals and fish are also eaten.

Breeding

Breeding occurs throughout spring, with clutches of six to 18 eggs being laid in burrows during summer.   The eggs hatch after 80 days.

Habitat

It is usually found on rocks, logs or overhanging vegetation close to waterways, along the eastern coast of Australia.
