| Introduction |

|
| This
sometimes fierce-looking reptile is often confused with another
famous Australian reptile, the Frilled Lizard. Usually greyish in
colour, the Bearded Dragon will puff up and raise its beard when
frightened or startled, and expose its bright yellow inner mouth. |
| Food |
| This
lizard eats both live prey such as worms and arthropods, as well as
vegetation, including flowers. |
| Breeding |
| This
species usually breeds around spring. Clutches of between 15 and 35
eggs are laid in a hole dug in sandy soil. This hole can often be 18
centimetres deep. When hatched the young dig their way out of the
hole, and must fend for themselves as there is no parental care. |
| Habitat |

|
| Found
in woodlands and dry sclerophyll forests throughout eastern
Australia (including many urban areas). This lizard can sometimes be
seen basking in the sun on elevated tree limbs or fence posts. |
